2025 Niagara Falls - Maine
This Fall, we set out from Texas on a 7,500-mile, five-week road trip through the Northeast US and into Canada, chasing fall color, lighthouses, wildlife, waterfalls, and plenty of coastal sunrises. At Niagara Falls we explored both the U.S. and Canadian sides—watching the river rush toward the brink, standing in the mist of the American and Horseshoe Falls, crossing Rainbow Bridge, and taking the Hornblower boat for close-up (and very wet) views and rainbows. The visit culminated in taking the exciting Zipline to the Falls (watch our videos below).
In New Hampshire’s White Mountains, we spent a week hiking in the area’s national forest, state parks, and nature preserves, admiring Fall reflections on lakes and streams, and riding the Mount Washington Cog Railway for sweeping views. Covered bridges, Echo Lake, Beaver Pond, and Fall foliage along the Kancamagus Highway rounded out the visit.
From there, we settled into an Airbnb in Prospect Harbor, Maine, welcomed by a rainbow and followed by many sunrise mornings. We explored the wildlife-rich shores around the harbor, photographing everything from sea grasses to herons and deer. Much of our Maine stay centered on Acadia National Park—watching waves crash on the rugged shores, wandering misty coves and carriage roads, and hiking around Jordan Pond beneath brilliant fall foliage. We also visited Quoddy Head’s striped lighthouse and crossed briefly into New Brunswick to explore Roosevelt Campobello International Park. There were so many beautiful sunrises, we added a Sunrise gallery at the end of this page.
Turning south, we followed the Maine coast and our final lighthouse views, we began the trip home, visiting friends in New Hampshire and Pennsylvania, and enjoying more Fall color in Maryland, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Tenneseee. A final adrenaline rush came on the mile-long MegaZip zipline in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee (watch our videos below).
This 7,500-mile adventure stitched together history, scenery, and wildlife—captured one stop, and one sunrise, at a time.
We both rode a zipline at Niagara Falls (on the Canadian side).
