2025 Yellowstone Winter Tour

In January 2025, we had the unforgettable opportunity to explore Yellowstone National Park in the heart of winter as part of a photography tour sponsored by the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA). The tour hotel was in West Yellowstone, MT (just outside the park’s western entrance.

With temperatures ranging from a brisk +40°F to a bone-chilling -25°F, the experience was nothing short of exhilarating. Bundled up and armed with our cameras, we boarded a snow coach to access areas of the park that are closed to the general public during the winter months. This unique mode of travel gave us an intimate, up-close view of Yellowstone’s raw, untouched beauty.

Steam rose dramatically from geothermal features against a backdrop of snow-covered landscapes. Bison trudged through deep drifts, their breath visible in the frigid air. All the animals reminded us we were deep in wild country, where nature rules in its most majestic form.

Winter in Yellowstone is quiet, magical, and intense — a true wonderland for photographers and nature lovers alike. Every moment felt like a scene from a documentary, and we were right there, capturing it all. It was a week full of adventure, inspiration, and awe at the power and serenity of the natural world.
